How To Apply For Or Renew Permits

The first year that residents apply for a permit, they must do so in person at the City of Urbana Finance Department, 400 S. Vine St., Urbana. At that time you will establish proof of residency with the following documents:
  1. Picture ID
  2. Proof of residency:
    • Driver’s license showing an address in the zone
    • Signed lease agreement
    • Current utility bill
  3. Current vehicle registration for each vehicle permitted.

Renew Permits On-Line
Renewal periods will begin on August 1st of each year.

You can renew a permit on-line IF:

  1. You were issued a permit last year
  2. Your address is the same as last year
  3. Your vehicle is the same as last year
  4. Your plate number is the same as last year
If any of the above information has changed, you will need to renew your permit at the Finance Dept.

Overnight Temporary Permits Temporary Day/Night Time Permit
Valid 3:00 AM to 3:00 PM		 $2.00 per day or a booklet of three permits for $5.00
Service Vehicle Permits Annual Service Vehicle Permit
Valid 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM
$15.00 per permit		 Available to bona fide owners of service businesses that perform work for residents of the zone. Not valid for resident parking.
Landlord Permits Annual Landlord Service Vehicle Permit
Valid 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM
No Cost		 Landlords can obtain permits for themselves, service personnel and agents in their employ to service rental properties. Available in quantities of 10. Not valid for resident parking
Miscellaneous Permits Construction Permit
Valid 3:00 AM to 3:00 PM
No Cost		 Available to residents for themselves or workers when construction projects are going on at their residence. Issued from 1 - 30 days in length.
Medical Caregiver
Valid 3:00 AM to 3:00 PM
No Cost		 Available to resident medical care givers. Issued from 1 day to 6 months in length.
Waiver of Permit Requirement Both residents and landlords can obtain a waiver of the permit requirement for special events, such as meetings, estate sales and garage sales by applying to the City Finance Dept. (217-384-2346) for a waiver at least 48 hours in advance of the event.
